7 Cambridge Center The Broad Institute

The genomics research building is organized around scientific programs and initiatives, and capability-based platforms – a new approach to scientific engineering. Projects are organized around the interactions of three groups: biologists and chemists, theoreticians, and production engineers who scale-up activities using a new generation of automated equipment.

Lab space totals 20,000 SF with 10,000 SF of offices. Each floor has a large 6,000 SF lab, and a mixture of smaller biology or chemistry labs depending upon the floor. Lab support includes warm rooms, cold rooms, freezer rooms, and dedicated space. The labs contain overhead service carriers for all utilities, and the use of flexible, modular casework enables the Broad Institute to stay adaptable.
