Strides Against Breast Cancer

This Sunday, October 5th, a team of Wilson Architects employees and friends will take to the streets as part of the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. The team is walking with the hope that the money we raise will help ‘Finish the Fight’ against breast cancer.

While signing up for the walk, I asked a few colleagues why this cause was personally important for them. These are their reasons:

“I’m grateful to say no one I know has been diagnosed with breast cancer and I want to keep it that way! I support Making Strides because the money raised goes back to support those who need it the most – the patients, the caregivers and, of course, the researchers. There are too many stories about important research grinding to a halt due to lack of funding. I’m walking because I want there to be a cure so my daughter never hears the words, “You have breast cancer.””
– Lisa Hellmuth, Director of Marketing | Associate

“I have had several friends and family members who have been impacted by this disease. I am walking with other members of our team to support those battling to regain their health and to memorialize those who have passed away. By helping to raise additional funds for research, we all can be active contributors to the development of a cure.”
–  Kevin Triplett, Associate

“My participation in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is motivated by two strong women in mine and my husband’s family, both of whom were fortunate enough to survive this disease.  That said, it is my way of contributing towards further advancement in research to prevent and fight breast cancer while promoting general awareness of the issue.”
– Gwen Majewski, Designer

The reason I’m walking is for, among others, my mom, who’s a survivor, and for my sister-in-law, who, after 13 years, lost her fight in 2006. I’ve known fierce men and women who refused to give up when they were diagnosed. I know how much early detection, aggressive treatment, positive attitudes, community support and research can mean to everyone touched by this disease. I think this cause is worth my time, energy and effort. I don’t run – not even if chased – so this is what I can do: walk, and ask for your support.

We all have different motivations but one, singular goal. We hope you’ll join us in the fight!

In case you think you can’t make a difference in this fight, here’s why every dollar counts:

  • $10 or $20 provides information and support for someone facing cancer.
  • $50 allows for 4 rides to or from treatment for a cancer patient.
  • $100 guides 4 women facing breast cancer through every step of their journey.
  • $500 provides a cancer patient and their caregiver 5 nights of free lodging.
  • $1000 helps a cancer researcher who is looking for support to investigate cancer, its causes, or its treatment.

We’re looking forward to a great day Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and hope you will consider supporting us, another team, or taking part next year! Even if you can’t partake in the event, share your story with us! Every story brings awareness on the path to beat this disease once and for all.
