Groundbreaking Celebration for the GAB No.1 at UMass Boston

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held in February for The General Academic Building No. 1 (GAB No. 1) at UMass Boston – the second new building planned for the campus.

The four-story, GAB No. 1, will contain general purpose classrooms and three specialized instructional spaces – art department, performing arts department, and chemistry teaching laboratories – an intentional blending of arts and sciences to create a unique, collaborative learning experience. The different types of classrooms distributed throughout the building will include studio classrooms, lecture rooms, case study rooms, and breakout/seminar rooms.
“General Academic Building No. 1 is vital in providing the necessary space to meet our growing enrollment and academic offerings,” Chancellor J. Keith Motley said in a statement. “The building’s state-of-the-art classroom spaces, laboratories, and performance areas will truly transform the learning and teaching experience here at the University of Massachusetts Boston.”
